Spring 2026 Update

January 2026 was spent having both our staff and youth participants talk about goals they wanted for this new year! We had great ideas, some big, some small, and some silly! We talked about doing more events in the upcoming year, such as craft fairs or book swaps, to give the community a chance to see our space. We dreamed big with ideas like getting a PYC van for youth trips or expanding the scope of our hours of care. We threw in some fun, not-so-serious goals like eating mac ‘n cheese for every meal! Throughout this first month of the year, we had multiple talks about how our youth can dream big and achieve just about anything with hard work.

In February, we had a heating issue, which caused our youth to have to take a hiatus from joining us. When they returned, that time was filled with letting our creativity flow! We announced our first Pemi Youth Center Craft Fair at the end of the month, and had a blast watching youth prepare for it! On the 28th, they had a chance, along with other members of our community, to show their art to the public! [See Photos Below]

March was filled with fun times, whether it was with Squam Lakes Natural Science Center or playing cornhole on movement days! This month, we had not one, but two opportunities to take photos with a giant check! The Lakes Region Wavemakers invited the admin team to a practice to take a photo with the team after they donated over a thousand dollars to PYC! The team raised this money by doing their 1-Hour Swim fundraiser! A few weeks later, Meredith Village Savings Bank came to take a photo with our youth in front of our building. They donated $2,000 to the Pemi Youth Center! [See Photos Below] Thank you to our friends for supporting this organization! We love you!!

April has been filled with some new things at PYC! On April 1st, we had our very first full day of care! Youth were welcome from 8:30AM to 5:30PM and offered a healthy breakfast, an afternoon snack, and dinner! We did a plethora of things with all the time we had! Whether we were taking walks around the town or building blanket forts, our youth had smiles on their faces all day! We introduced another fantastic addition on the first! That day was our first Self Defense class with Mr. Trader! From 5:45 to 6:30PM, Monday through Friday, Jesse offers a martial arts class for our youth! [See Photos Below] With Spring here (minus that one snow day!), we’ve been having a blast and taking advantage of going outside more. We had our last SLNSC Day for the semester and met a saw whet owl after learning about sound! We’ve had a few groups from PSU come in and share their Capstone projects with us! We’ve learned about empathy, nutrition, and have more coming to talk about emotions, and hold our annual PYC Olympics! We’ll have our last OCI Art day for the semester soon, and we have to say farewell to our PSU Volunteers and Staff at the end of the month. To go out on a good note, we will be open for the full days, and we will do our annual Youth Awards on the first of May (that Friday)!
