The need for a supportive and nurturing after school program for high school aged youth is paramount in Franklin. As a result, PYCF began as a project developed by students in Ms. Amanda Maguire’s Current Issues class at Franklin High School. Tasked with coming up with ways to improve the culture and climate of their community, the students came up with an after school “club” for teenagers to gather in a safe, supervised environment. This idea was presented to the Mayor, Superintendent, high school Principal, and other stakeholders as an exercise in presentation skills.
More than two years later, Ms. Maguire decided to turn the idea into reality. A group of educators and community leaders was established to brainstorm possibilities and within months, a partnership with PYCP was officially created. This partnership provides the organization with experience, expertise, and guidance of a time-tested and successful youth center. As the first official Chapter of the Pemi Youth Center- Plymouth, the Pemi Youth Center-Franklin (PYCF) continues and expands the goals and successes of the Plymouth location.
PYCF is an organization in its infancy. But, with a board of talented and knowledgeable members and a partnership with an established youth center, it is anticipated PYCF will soon be a sustainable pillar of the Franklin community. Currently, PYCF is located at Franklin High School.
