Program Hours: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM

 Academic Support:
Staff members assist youth participants with homework from 2:30-4pm, Monday through Friday. PSU students engage local youth and creatively help them develop strategies to successfully complete their homework tasks.

College Application Process Support:
PYC CAPS (College Application Process Support) is a program designed to support and assist high school students with the college application process.

Community Service Opportunities:
PYC engages youth in a variety of Community Based Service Learning projects throughout the school year and summer months.

Creative Arts Workshops:
PYC offers art workshops in collaboration with Friends of the Arts, the PSU Art Department, and the PSU Art Collaborative. Art students and local artists provide weekly opportunities at the Center for youth to engage in art activities and to appreciate expertise in the arts.

Empowerment Groups:
The PYC empowerment groups, S.E.L.F. (Support, Empowerment, Love, And Freedom) and B.A.T.T. (Boys Achieving Together Today) meet on a weekly basis and cover important topics such as: self-esteem, body image, healthy relationships, peer pressure, bullying, stressors, stress relievers, uniqueness, inner strength, achieving dreams and much more.

Life Skills Component:
PYC is focusing on developing important life skills among youth participants in the areas of cooking, finance, career development, and home management. The component will engage youth in social and professional skills that will prepare them for the future.

Mentoring:
PYC staff members and Mentor student volunteers offer one-on-one mentoring opportunities for local youth.

Nutrition:
The PYC Nutrition Component offers youth healthy choices during after school hours including nutritious snacks and meals. Youth participants engage in healthy eating, while being informed of how to make healthy food choices. In addition, youth develop cooking skills and provide hot meals for each other and in a community setting. A daily nutritious meal is offered to all youth participants.

Recreational Game and Activities:
PYC offers a variety of recreational opportunities both at the center and in collaboration with PSU Recreation Department at PSU facilities, on a weekly basis.

Science Collaborative:
PYC partners with the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center (SLNSC) in offering an 8 month long educational curriculum with opportunities for youth to learn about their natural environment and the wildlife that inhabit it.

Substance Misuse Prevention:
The PYC Chain Reaction, Youth to Youth group is a drug and alcohol free youth empowerment program, with the goal to educate our youth and community on the benefits of remaining drug and alcohol free. Chain Reaction is a branch of Youth to Youth International and follows Dover Youth to Youth curriculum. The group meets on a weekly basis.

The Pemi Youth Center empowerment program is offered at no cost to youth and families!
